0x000003e3 errors in Vista?

When installing/connecting to an network printer in Vista...

If you receive an 0x000003e3 error when attempting to connect to a networked printer (or a printer that is attached to an XP computer, but 'shared'), then the issue is that your Vista wants to install the driver for the printer, but the printer driver is speaking XP instead of Vista.

To correct this involves a two-step, fairly easy process. 1) Install the printer as a 'local' printer, choosing your LPT port. Since there is no printer actually there, you'll need to tell Vista exactly what type of printer make and model it is from the pick lists. 2) Once the 'fake printer' is installed, in Printers, right click and go to Properties. Then add a new Port, and make that port's address the same as the networked printer: \\NETWORKEDCOMPUTERNAME\PRINTERNAME. (you'll need to know the name of both the computer and the printer :) ).

Now the driver is installed, and the printer properties are pointing to the networked location instead of your local one :).
