Convert MPEG files to MP3

Sometimes a client will send me an audio file saved as an MPEG (video) file. This can cause issues for people who want to put them on their MP player or for folks who do not have the MPEG codec on their computer to open the file.

If you have NERO, you can convert these files easily using Nero SoundTrax (I use v6. The older version is so great, I haven't yet upgraded to the latest, which is v8.) To convert a MPEG to MP3:

1) Insert > Audio File > All files (*.*), then select the MPEG to convert. (yes, it will get opened) 2) File > Export to Audio File > MP3. Since the default is a mid-range quality, if you are going to place your MP3 online, you may want to select the OPTIONs in the dialog box and tweak the settings down to reduce file size. If you want the highest quality, you may want to tweak setting UP

Voila! If you cannot save as an MP3, you may need to download the MP3 codec. Nero has one that is available for download with the product, and there are many others online that you can download (some free, some for nominal $).
